The most important thing is that the change we need can now be achieved and that is what Obama stands for and I hope that every person he has appointed in various positions will perform to the optimum level to achieve results.

It was not only Kenyans who received the news of Obama’s victory with joy and jubilation, but the whole world did. We cannot sit back and try to feel guilty that Obama grew up without a father in the United States. No he is not the only one. Perhaps this background is the foundation of his success because he had the opportunity to share the same experience with many other sons and daughters who grew up in the United States without fathers.

I cannot say that Obama is black as many do, as his is half white and half black. Besides, his culture is not African.

I commend him for working hard through odds to come a long way climbing so fast to be the most powerful man in the world. It is unbelievable that this was his first term as a Senator.

I hope that through unity and wise choice of the cabinet, he will achieve the change that he stand for.

As for Hilary Clinton who has been appointed the Minister for Foreign Affairs, if she is not satisfied with the post then she is free to resign as Obama does not owe her any allegiance. She lost the election in the primaries.

Whether Obama is ashamed of Kenyans or not, that is himself to decide and
we shall not sit there and feel guilty for crimes we never committed. We Kenyans are happy and proud of him.

He is free to choose his associates and the allegation that Raila’s contribution was rejected does not tie up. Raila has very many poor people whom he could have distrubuted the money to instead of adding wealth on to wealth and Obama knows quite well about the situation of poverty in Kenya. Who else contributed to USA campaigns who was not an American Citizen? Americans conducted their elections themselves and in their own style.

Now that he has filled the key cabinet positions, I hope he will look back and consider women too in other cabinet position relevant to women as this is become an issue in the women’s mind right now.

Congratulations Obama and may God bless you to achieve the change you promised the world.

@Mwangi: Looking at the context of the text, the reference was metaphorical, the direction basically outlining the horrors of the slavery which did not stop with the abolition of it, but rather continued in a different form which was racism. The “ownership” of America, in African terms simply means that an African-American will take the highest seat of office in the U.S.A, which is really outstanding, the American dream personified. And history in the making!!
I was reading two magazines yesterday; the Newsweek and New African (both November issues written of course before the election results came through), and one magazine outlined that Africa was on President Obama’s priority list in comparison to Mr McCain’s priority list which did not include Africa. The New African noted that Obama was very global, having an African father, relations in Indonesia, and a Muslim middle name. We only have to wait and see the steps he will take to solve the economic crisis that is worrying everybody, and of course the new American foreign policy that the whole world is waiting anxiously for.. I’m over and out!

@CM Atieno: I hope that its just the exuberance of the moment speaking and that people don’t honestly think that we “own” America in any way shape or form.
I am sure a lot of people are very anxious to see just what of foreign policy he will have especially in regards to the wars and Africa. Though by the looks of things, he doesn’t look like he wants to revolutionize whats going on in the middle east.

I am absolutely excstatic at Obama winning the U.S elections. Heck, this goes to show that dreams do come true and we can be whatever we’d love to be, our dreams have no limit so dream as far and as high as you want to be. From what I can see, Kenya is so proud and happy for Obama, and to have Obama having Kenyan roots is great. He is not just an ordinary African-American, he is an extraordinary man who is ‘half-Kenyan’, ‘half-American.’
Guys up here in Holland are exuberant, more so the Africans. One Kenyan girl called me early this morning and confessed that she felt like running around Amsterdam bearing the Kenyan flag! Two Ghanaians congratulated me for having my own as President, imagine that! One Nigerian guy texted me early this morning, and what he wrote was that ” And finally, through the savagery of subjugation, through the brunt of the oppressor’s yoke, through streams of tears, through indelible marks; we own AMERICA!”
All I can say is that, “it’s been a longtime coming, and finally that day is here, to quote Martin Luther King Jr – HALLELUYAH, thank God Almighty that we are free at last!!!!!

PS: And now the sobering challenges that President Barack Hussein Obama faces, it’s my prayer that God Almighty would grant Him the wisdom to deal with the legacy of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, to draft out a good foreign policy plan dealing with continents across the globe, and finally to straighten out the American economic woes which are spilling out across it’s borders and affecting other nations across the globe.

By the way, it’s just crazy. I don’t see the rationale in declaring tomorrow a public holiday, goes to show how shallow our leaders are. IMO, the inauguration day would have been better, if we have to have a holiday at all.

Children have dropped out of school declaring, ” I want to go into politics just like Obama”
Nairobi is experiencing an impregnation rate not seen since it achieved independence in 1963.
In other news, there is no longer any parking in church car parks and the country has officially depleted every drop of beer.

Guys are going wild Mwangi. Crowds are marching up and down the streets carrying the American flag, chanting and singing pro Obama songs. Nothing can compare to the euphoria witnessed especially in Nairobi and Kisumu, where people had been camping all night watching as the results streamed in.
Tomorrow has even been declared a public holiday to the annoyance of many business people in Nairobi.
