@Carol: For those who don't understand, najivunia kuwa mwafrika means I am proud to be African. I couldn't have put it better myself........
It's great to have something this mentally stimulating simmering in your mind before bed, sparks great neural connections while you sleep. Sweet dreams or if you read this in the morning, have a great day.

This is marvelous, good I read before retiring to bed ._.!
This Taiye article takes me to deep thinking, what should I say? Only 'going back to my roots'
But for sure I am proud to be African, never will I deny my origins, not for anything. As for me,I would culturally and nationally say I am Kenyan. Oui, as easy as that.I can even tell the ethnic group ,tribe, clan,etc.........
One three-word-sentence to sum it up? Najivunia kuwa mwafrika! For real.

@gal africana: By the looks of things, this piece has done its fair share of rounds but it definitely hits home.
I heavily agree in garnering support in order to change home and I think collectively we as a diaspora community have wwaaaaayyyy more power in a lot of ways than the folk back on the continent, in some ways we don't. But we should definitely use this power to effect some changes on the mainland and become one powerful river flowing in one solid direction rather than many little powerful streams going all over the place.
You and me both. To be quite frank, culturally and nationally I would have no idea how to classify myself at all. Racially and my background is by default, but the other two..........I guess I am an Afropolitan.

I read that some months back and thought it was brilliant! It IS about damn time we were proud of being African...in an embracing non-arrogant way.

The "making changes back home" idea is good, but I would tread carefully and garner all manner of support before daring to do so...Africa is heavily entrenched in its ways...for good or bad....I believe things are getting better in their own good time...appreciation of this fact is important. I'm slowly learning this.

"Ultimately, the Afropolitan must form an identity along at least
three dimensions: national, racial, cultural"

I'm not sure what my identity is formed along...I'm still stubbornly holding onto my Kenyan citizenship...even thought that's really silly of me...but in all other ways, I'm one mixed up, but STILL Kenyan cat.
