@Sariat: In general, Kenyans do tend to be a more relaxed subdued folk. I actually am not a big fan of that. If I could have been born anywhere else on Earth., it would either have been Naija or Latin America and part of the reason is the emphasis and focus on passion........

@Sariat: Yup, my life is pretty much the same. I have caught and continue to catch helluva lot of grief for focusing on this site so much. If I focused on this site but had a "corporate job", no matter how unfulfilling or self-centred it was, I think I would really be a crown jewel, but at the moment I am still kind of a semi-embarrassment.

Interestingly enough, David Kobia from Ushahidi.com also talked about how he has problems telling his mother what he does because he works from home on the computer......Aaahhh the joys of inter-generational gaps.

Oh and as far as East Africans being the more chill people, THAT IS SOOOOO TRUE! Most of the East Africans I have met are Kenyans, and they seem naturally happy, and calm people. Not saying other Africans are not also happy people, but I have notice a difference in vibes. Don't really know any south africans

Yo, this is exactly it, as a biology pre- med major, after graduating I told my Nigerian father, I was going to take a year or two off to volunteer for the peace-corps, he said to me , " what do you want to do, save the world or something." Every time I talked with my grandfather his very first question would be, "how are you doing in school." I told him once when I was in high school that I wanted to be a veterinarian, he told me no be a doctor. Hey if you are Nigerian and you don't go for education, there well be big trouble!!

Now at every chance my dad gets he brings up still going to medical school, soooooo funny : )

@Caustic: And in Africa you should see the reaction you get if you say you are going into the arts and shunning the Holy Grail of Office jobs, they treat you like the madman of the village. The accuracy of the subtext of the Youtube video is amazing....and of course funny.

That was hilarious, if there is one thing I know, your mother has one idea as to what you should do in the future and you have another.

That woman actually reminds me of all the older and middle age Kenyan women I have spoken to since I dropped out of college, "Where are the papers? Where is the money?".....it's amazing that people of the same generation think alike throughout the continent.
On a scale from laid-back to aggressive I think we in East Africa are probably the most chilled out people whereas the rest of Africa seems to bring the heat to everything they do.....
